You have gotten better at Pwning Telstra 201... Again

Post by Mazia »

Mwahahahahahahahahhahahaa

The saga has been won. Today at 9:30am Telstra ADSL connections rang me up to inform me that they were sorry and yes I could get ADSL on my line that they had previously told me was "pair gain" had "extra equipment" on the line. That was "too far from the exchange"

Should be connected by tonight or tomorrow morning.

Jossy and I ended up ordering a second line with the intention of getting a tech on site. The tech was VERY helpful and told me exactly how long my cable was (3275meters) what guage the pair was. (0.4) Where the local riser (RA) was. How many line were left available on my street. And on the other side of the street (had we been on the other side of the street we would have been fresh out of luck). He let us know both of our lines were "real copper" He told me where the only RIM in town was located. And that he was out of a job soon due to Telstra cutbacks. That ADSL does work up to 7km from the exchange but because of SLA's they wont agree to install it over 3.5km. How many ports were IN the local exchange left for ADSL. And a pile of other interesting information including that telstra is raising the rates for line rentals again soon and it will be paid quaterly (or so he said) He also said you can have a majorly crackely line like horribly crackely voice wise and ADSL will work without skipping a beat because of the way it travels over the line. Thought that was interesting.

So I called up telstra and bollocked them. Put in a formal complaint and told them they were liers. Told them how I had managed to get the information they were previously refusing to tell me and Lo and behold I get a call saying here ya go what company would you like to connect your ADSL with?

Happy days.

Mazia

ps. Dont take telstra bullshit is what I say

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub55.ezboard.com/bwreckingcrew5 ... atarack at: 6/27/03 4:42 pm

No reason - they repeat the mantra "you have a pair gain line" "you have equipment on your line that disqualifys you"

So I called and ranted till I got a Team leaders direct number - I am now waiting for him to repeat the same old 3 day bullshit while he waits for the next department to get back to him

So I rang telstra faults got a Telstra employee number from them - got the technical details on my line - verified that there is no equipment on my line thats been added - got my Main Pair Cable number P35 and the Exchange Number and rang ADSL team leader back and gave him the information.

Telstra faults says you are NOT on a pair gain line. There is NO equipment on your line. You are in a Main Pair Cable which is copper all the way back to the exchange. There is NO reason you cannot get ADSL.

So what the fk is going on I ask you - I shall continue to escalate the call but we are stuck with the same bullshit wait till this team leader gets what he is after back.

OK turns out we do have something on the lines called "loading coils"

Researched information on what a loading coil is – turns out

“You might wonder, if distance is a limitation for DSL, why it's not also a limitation for voice telephone calls. The answer lies in small amplifiers called loading coils that the telephone company uses to boost voice signals. Unfortunately, these loading coils are incompatible with ADSL signals, so a voice coil in the loop between your telephone and the telephone company's central office will disqualify you from receiving ADSL. Other factors that might disqualify you from receiving ADSL include:

The presence of "bridge taps." These are extensions, between you and the central office, that extend service to other customers. While you wouldn't notice these bridge taps in normal phone service, they may take the total length of the circuit beyond the distance limits of the service provider.

Fiber-optic cables. ADSL signals can't pass through the conversion from analog to digital and back to analog that occurs if a portion of your telephone circuit comes through fiber-optic cables.

Distance. Even if you know where your central office is (don't be surprised if you don't -- the telephone companies don't advertise their locations), looking at a map is no indication of the distance a signal must travel between your house and the office. “

20th June 3:15
Called Telstra Faults and explained the situation. Educated the consultant Renee who was from Townsvile on what a “Loading Coil” was and that I wanted it removed from my brand new lines. Renee lodged a complaint / fault. This will go to a complaint manager to investigate. The Complaints manager will contact us back within two working days. The complaint manager should check wether or not a “loading coil” can be removed from either of the installed lines. The Complaint Number is 1403350.

Researched information from forums
“loading coils are used to extend the distance from the exchange that a phone will work. usually the minimum distance that is loaded is 4.5km. which usually is to far for ADSL”

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub55.ezboard.com/bwreckingcrew5 ... atarack at: 6/20/03 5:52 pm

3 months worth of dialup is a good backup in case there's teething problems with the ADSL however. But I'm sure that won't happen, Telstra are consumate professionals.

Good job with the persistance.
Kathodos - Battle Cleric of Tunare - Tholuxe Paells
