I think I broke my comp

Post by Hiroki »

It's 7:05 pm, Wednesday #rd July, and I cant get into Everquest :-(.
I only got home from work not long ago, and I can't seem to get onto EQ live to check server status either.
Eq is telling me to check and make sure I'm connected to the internet, but I'm here so obviously I am >.<
Anyone else experiencing this as well?
Any explaination?
Did I break my computer :-(

/raises her hand

I had the same problem Wednesday, ran a couple of anti-bug stuff, and it worked.

Not computer savvy enough to know what it was though.

Hey Kula.... Do you use a router?? With Ver and I's computer they share the internet via a router... ever so often it need caching (I guess that is what they call it) anyhow I know when its time to cache because I go LD everytime I zone.... to cache turn off router (I turn off modem too) for about an hour... turn back on and you should be fine.... All has to do with some internal memory build up that needs clear... or that is how I understand it....

<disclaimer: I know practically nothing about computer so any mis spellings or wrong definitions I hold no responsibility for>

Thats what works for us. :D

The other option is to rename your eq folder then install the whole lot from scratch fresh - its a nice way to clean out the garbage - I am thinking about doing this again one of these days - its been a while.

Comp does some funny things at times, I have had cases where the patcher refuse to see the connection. I had to access the Internet using a browser, then it works.

You can also skip the patcher by running the game directly, this at least will give you till next patch to figure what happen without interrupting the gameplay :P.

As far as I can tell it is impossible to run the game directly without using the patcher, something Sony has done???

You definitly can, the game can be start directly via bypassing the patcher by running one of the exe in the EQ directory, I think is "Eqgame.exe" but don't quote me on the exact name.

The default exe starts the patcher and then runs that exe above to start the game, so if you just run the direct exe it will bypass the patcher and start the game directly.

Not having read most of the above, fyi, tried all .exe files in EQ lib and they all said I had to use the one that started patcher. So, now I'm using WinEQ2.

I love it when Thor's heart gets full of prose.
I wonder how that happens, it stopped beating years ago :)

I just copy and paste other stuff. Cut and paste something melo says, delete melo's post. get credit. It's all good.

Ohh this way I get blamed for bad punctuation etc but that's better than my own version of spelling/punctuation.
