Memory management and EQ - Utility

Post by Mazia »

For a while EQ has been pissing me off with the way it deals with its memory management figured there had to be a tweek or some better way it could be setup so I went a looking. Found a utility that does a heap of cache and memory tweeking that for me at least (and certainly makes a huge difference on bubskis machine) My machine before stilling this on with 2gb of memory would regularly page out most of it to disk for no real reason.

Mainly see good gains on dualboxing but might be good for those with less memory also. It adjusts how frequently / soon memory is shuffeled onto hard drive and tweaks various other settings like how much memory eq sets aside for disk precaching.

All I really did was turn on CachemanXP controlled under the cache tab - but there are a number of other settings that can tweak the performance of other things on your system.

Dont go messing arround with the other settings unless you know what your doing - Backup before you begin. (there is a backup section in it also)

Best of all everythings free except for the "paid options" like auto config.

Nice find, Maz. Will read into it to see what it actually does.

Installed the CacheXP thing, but haven't rebooted since yesterday... it's not dragging the system down at least! Will see what happens, if I ever have to reboot and 4box again.
