EQ in a Window - How To.

1. EQW typically breaks every time the EQGAME.EXE is updated significantly. It's happened several times in the past. I'd call this a pretty big update.
2. SoE has never supported EQW, so why care if it breaks?
3. The ALT+ENTER system seems to work pretty well. With the exception that EverQuest doesn't yet support multiple instances of EverQuest running at the same time, it works pretty well.
Kathodos - Battle Cleric of Tunare - Tholuxe Paells

It was ground breaking stuff too, it paved the way for PS2. Without DC, PS2 would still be on sony's drawing board. (I'm talking accessories and connectivity type things here mainly, not so much graphics)

But from the day it came out, it was destined to recieve the exact treatment it got. copy the ideas, and blow them out of the water with a glossy product backed by a marketting machine.

<a href="http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.h ...

After playing with the Windowed Mode a bit this morning, things I would like to see:

Support for multiple instances of EverQuest on the same machine (SoE said this is being developed).

Being able to enter Windowed Mode from the moment you run EverQuest (EULA screen, after clicking PLAY on the updater).

Rather than "Auto Recapture" of the mouse when you bring the EverQuest window back into focus, make the window have to be in focus and the Mouse Release key be pressed in order to reclaim the mouse.
This would make it cleaner to flick between applications without having to unlock the mouse repeatedly, which soon gets annoying.

Allow Windowed Mode to be activated when zoning and when you get the "YOU HAVE BEEN DISCONNECTED" message. Allow the mouse to be unlocked when you are disconnected.

I'm still impressed that they pulled it off so cleanly in the first attempt. I expected weeks of agony.
Kathodos - Battle Cleric of Tunare - Tholuxe Paells

Actually Bopp, I mainly want to see those to quell the bitching that I'm reading on every freaking board. That's the summary of what would make everyone happy from what I can see.

I didn't use EQW. I'm quite happy with EverQuest's new windowed mode.

EDIT: BTW, as I said to someone on the Cleric board, did you log into the test server to test the windowed mode? Did you /bug and /feedback your thoughts? Did you /bug and /feedback your thoughts since it's been released on the live servers?

Don't complain about the government if you didn't go and vote.

EDIT2: EverQuest Windowed Mode also allows me to revert the game BACK to full screen mode, something that EQW never did. I can also reconfigure the mouse release hotkey. These two features have made it more functional for me than EQW ever was. With the above mentioned adjustments, it should satisfy the die hard EQW fans as well.
Kathodos - Battle Cleric of Tunare - Tholuxe Paells

true, switching between windowed and full screen modes was on JSD's list of "features to add" for some time, but seeing as he was developing it in his own time it's fair enough that it didn't make it to release.

there's really no excuse for sony to have paid JSD a couple of $k for his work and take it themselves from there. it's been so thoroughly beta tested because of their own intransigence on the issue they could've concentrated on adding extra features to it eg: mode switching, shared texture/model memory spaces for multiple instances (this more than anything will make "2-boxing" on one machine more feasible)

Bop.

ps this'd be more fun if it wasn't so easy
/em waits for the "stfu assling"

/agree Curtis. EverQuest should have supported Windowed Mode from the beginning.

/bonk Boppin.
