New Website.

Post by Noggle »

I have opened a store on cafepress.com, to sell some T-Shirt ideas I have had for some time now. I would like to invite everyone to take a look. The prices are kinda high, and in USD, so I don't expect (nor would I ask for) any purchases from anyone here. What I would greatly appreciate though, is if you guys would be willing to link to my site on your sites, or blogs or whatever. Getting traffic to my site seems to be a difficult prospect, as I have no clue how to get it onto a search engine, how to blog, or anything like that. Basically I'm a computer nerd in the sense of "it's broke? I can fix it, or if not, I know who can." so everything else is kinda foreign to me. Anyway have a look: http://www.cafepress.com/hednoize

One of the ways to get yourself onto search engines is to imbed words that indicate what your site is about in the headers of the HTML, or something like that. For istance, T Shirt, Humour, Cheese, etc. You can also imbed words that don't have much connection with what your site is about as well. This is whats known as spaming.

As people do searches on Cheese they wil get links to your site show up. the more people that hit your site, the further up the search engine results you will appear. So thusly the more different topics you imbed into your page/pages the more chance you have of people getting to your site.

Ok, but I think I read that google actually checks for that and specifically will drop you down the list if you do that?

Hmm not sure about that mate. My HTML skills are fairly basic, ask about, there are enough programmers on th board that someone must know something about that.

Thanks Maz, serves 2 purposes ... 1) hilarity, 2) religious peeps might actually buy it as a counterattack.

Would LOVE to make that shirt Angel, but the copyright infringement involved (or the licensing) would cost me a pretty penny.

They ban people for that. At least if they are large car-manufactors who do it alot :p But it's only if it's unrelated to your site I think.

Spamming pages with words kinda works and kinda don't work with search engines. I worked with these a lot a few years back and at the time spamming works fairly good with Yahoo etc, but not terrible good with Google.

There are a lot of tricks and stuff to get traffic to your site. Getting good related links are super important. There are people on the net actually make money out of selling links to other websites from his own ones.

I use to be able to get fairly good results on Yahoo and MSN just by some simple optimization but Google is a lotta harder, primiarly because there are a lot more people competing for those positions. Google do update often and trying to catch people doing the optimization out.

Content is the King with Google and Google is the king of the search engines. Depend on your profit margin pay per click stuff can work if you know what you are doing.
