This site doesn't tell the story too well, but it was the first one I found on Google :p
http://www.di2.nu/files/Muhammed_Cartoo ... osten.html
Basicly, back in Sept. a danish newspaper published some illustrations of Muhammed... they were 'funny' or illustrative of something, which added to the pain, since depicting the Prophet is not allowed. Well, it created some stir here, but nothing major... so, come Jan./Feb. some Imam or something catches word of it down in some Muslim country... and bam... Danish goods being boycoyted, danish flags being burnt, Denmark being targeted for suicide bombings, danes replaced the americans in the march-songs of the palestinians etc. etc. etc.. It has spread to most of the Middle-east and some danish companies are feeling the boycoyt (125 people on extended leave from a company that lost all export to the Middle-east).
Then, to illustrate to the Middle-east what 'Freedom of speech' and 'Freedom of press' means, a handful of European newspapers published the cartoons as well.... and the muslims rage.
Edit: Forgot to mention, that a handfull of Middle-Eastern countries have closed their embassies here in Denmark over the last week or so.

And a French newspaper recently printed a cartoon with Allah in it. The Mussies whined and the paper owners sacked the Editor.
So not only are they blowing up anyone white they can lay their hands on, but they are intimidating the press trying to bring their repressive religious regime to every country in the world. Which is an avowed duty of every Muslim btw, by persuasion if possible, otherwise the sword.
Check out the Saudi flag one day.
Publish and be damned, tis the only answer.

Yeah, eventho it might be a bit dramatic and overreacting, I think this might be the drop that eventually tips the cup. Here's something posted in a danish newspaper (letter from a reader):
Sorry, sorry
Sorry, for giving you shelter and help.
Sorry, for giving you an education.
Sorry, for helping you economically.
Sorry, for allowing you to freely practice your faith in our christian country.
Sorry, for sending aid to your countries.
Sorry, for not demanding blood-vengance for the murders of our country-men commited by muslims.
Sorry, for not running around with explosives attached to our bodies, when we feel violated.
Sorry, for not acting as your faith commands you.
But an apology for speaking in our own country and after our own laws - that, you'll never see.

Yeh the whole thing is rediculous. But the same kind of reaction can be extracted from various Christian / Biblical faiths people did go nutso over the "piss Christ" and the "porn encrusted feces covered virgin mary". Not so universally no but like anything it only takes a small minority to incite all the others or make it "seem" like all muslims are going banannas
Lets not forget that the "press" has a nasty habbit of blowing things out of preportion and misrepresenting actual events along side their real news. Also the general feel that the Press in America paints that all muslim / muslim countries harbour terrorists / produce terrorists
Yes western countries are heaps more tollorant of bullshit. That isnt neccessarily a good thing really. But the people going nuts over cartoons is a little rough but still each to their own.

I have to say I agree with Maz...
Not all Muslims are dynamite-wearing, suicide bombing, loony white-people hating religious fanatics...I work with 3 Muslims and the thought of ANY one of those people running into Parliament with dynamite strapped to their chest is laughable, it just wouldnt happen.
Unfortunately there are a few lunatics out there who have made Muslims look bad, but wouldnt that be the same as the world judgeing us based on the behaviour of Nazis or any other non-favourable minority group?
I'm not denying there ARE fkn psycho-Muslims out there, but there are psychos from EVERY country in the world, from EVERY religious background. It's just unfortunate that our press wants us to think that the Muslims are bad, so of course most of us DO start to think that, which is in fact perpetuating the myths that the bad Muslims hold onto to justify their horrific actions...

Just out of interest, this is the link to the furore on a local Sydney Islam website - its very interesting, to say the least.

If it was just a few people burning flags in some desert country, I'd agree. But when 4 muslim countries have called back their ambassadors and closed their embasies, it indicates that this isn't the case. It indicates that this might actually turn into a real issue, that we should be concerned about.
And it doesn't matter that the newspaper apologized (which was what they asked for in the beginning), because the newspaper bluntly said that they could/would not apologize for their freedom of speech, only that they had offended people with the cartoons.

Its still not 4 million people. If the government types of the country are muslim and feeling extreem about it it only takes a handful of people to promote and propigate the view view that its the whole country.
Like Johny Howard sending us to war with Iraq with the Americans. Cant say that it was 16millions people that wanted to go to war now can you.

Two things...
1) The worst picture, the picture supposedly showing Muhammed as a pig, one that was never posted in any danish newspaper, but was shown everywhere (Also on BBC, who showed it, but didn't comment on the fact that it wasn't danish, eventho informed of this)... anywayz, this picture, just turned out to be from a French pig-fair last year... and the danish Imam-spokesman didn't want to comment on the picture... only if he got 10 mins of air time he said, he wouldn't answer in 20 seconds... but he had time to spend 30 seconds on saying who they wanted an apology from...
2) Middle-eastern burning of danish products and flags today... the products were mostly foods... the boxes were empty tho, since burning food is sacrelize... (err... an offence to God)... so... a morning in a muslims life: a) Buy/steal/get from your local terrorist danish goods b) Eat grand danish breakfast c) Gather all the ignorant muslims you can find in your 3rd world country and head to the nearest Norwegian/Swedish/Danish (does it really matter, it's like the same country, right?!) d) Check boxes for leftovers, before lighting them on fire e) Go to wellfare office/whatever and pick up your foodstamps f) Go pick up food sponsored by infidels g) Stop by the local hardware store to check if your 'Bomb yourself' kit has arrived. Let's hope it has.
I laughed my ass off at the spokesman refusing to comment on the fake Muhammed pictures...he was just this comical lil man, running away from the camera, eventho he had no issues standing infront of it when he could spout the usual 'We want to hear a real apology from... '

Yeah, was looking through a paper yesterday and muslims were running around with cartoons meant to portray the danish Queen as a cow... I was like "Is that a retort or you trying to make us laugh?"
