Question for the Yanks

My young nephew (just turned 15) is stupid and plays Baseball here in Australia (wtf can't he play a real game like cricket). Anyway some scout from some USA team over there - Florida Marlins Major League - has invited him to a 2 weeks training camp over in the USA sometime in April.

Anyone know if this is genuine or is it some sort of con job?

At the age of 15, you might want to take a look at the Miruwin. I would ask to see some creditials (mispelled). I am not a major league baseball fan BUT I know they draft guys after graduating high school to the minor leagues though.

"Yanks"

I think the correct term is "Non-Native Americans"

I`m not into Baseball my self living in Melbounre but some friends of the family are into baseball in a big way, and they where approched at about the same age to go over to try out and from what i hear it is very common at that age.

all of the baseball teams have training areas in florida...its actually a big thing to go and watch their "spring trainging" games, which are in the april time frame....my grandfather is a big fan, and used to go to watch before his stroke...and my mother lives nearby, and has folks stop in to see her when they are going to watch sometimes...

15 seems a bit young to me on the recruiting side....would have thought 17-18 be the youngest you would get a real look...but there could be special training camps etc that looked as kids as young as 15...

but i don't know much about professional sports...period...one of the best thing about living in australia is no one expects me to know aussie sports...and i dont have to pretend to follow the usa sports...hehe...

anyhow...not an immediate red flag...but i would still do some due dilligence on the invitation...but if its real...more power to the kids to go...

Seems its the genuine article - brother has checked it out and yes, the scout is well known to the Australian Baseball Association. My nephew is apparently quite a good little pitcher.

DO IT ... seriously .. get him on the plane and secure his future playing Baseball :) ..

And 15 isn't to young for them to hit training camps especially for pitchers .. most of the Major League teams start looking from the high school ages .. this way they can develop them for when they hit 17-18 .. even then they push the kids towards a college for him to attend to finish his schooling and play at that level again developing his skills and preparing him for the up coming MLB drafts .. good way for him to get a great education for free playing a sport he loves not to mention the possiblity of playing in the MLB and setting himself up for life.

We had this talk already Miru :) ..

DO IT
