Well I did have all these read and then one day there were 3 unread and I though I'll get back to them and then the nest day there were 7 unread and I thought I'll get back to them etc.

I have to admit Tem the old world's hold a real charm to them, so much so than many later efforts.
But damn have you seen the quality of the new stuff, Golems in Riwiw etc.

I been thinkin on this subject, lots of people talking about an old style EQ server.

Imo, its still there and can be experienced as a n00b if you so desire.

1) Roll a new toon
2) Adhere to the following rules
- No twinking, no PL, make the little bugger earn everything. Don't buy gear, only equip what drops for you.
- Do your noobie quests, get your noobie armour, get a rusty and learn to sharpen it. Remember patchwork? Get your uber dwarven axe and your shiny brass shield and wear them with pride.
- Go lvl in crushbone, work your way up through Highpass camping the uber PGT and the wonder of the Shralok pack.
- Go camp in Highkeep and get yourself a full set of bronze! teh uber
- Do your class armour quests and head for SolB Window
- Do a Fear raid with lvl 50 and under (without GLobby rezzes =) !!! )
- PoK and Nexus are forbidden to you. totally, utterly, you may not enter under any circumstances. You may not click on any book ever, you may never utter the phrase "journey to Luclin" yeah that applies to u too Rags!! This covers guildhall and Baz (that should make buying sufficiently hard!)

It's all there still, the only thing between you and the old world is your urge to twink and the overpowered weapons you can buy for peanuts. You might think, bah! giving him 100pp isnt twinking, but remember... once upon a time 10pp seemed like riches beyond dreams.

As far as buying gear is concerned, mebbe its ok but remember when a Yak cost 2500pp?? YOu can buy them for almost nothing now, so remember that buying gear is almost inevitably givin u unfair advantage. Best not to if at all possible. Perhaps a nice rule would be, you can only buy from NPC merchants. This will ensure that the gear is sufficiently overpriced and fits nicely in with the ban on Baz.

Apart from that, the world is still Old.

i did that with some friends last year melo. we made it to like lvl 10 and got bored.

Yah, I wouldnt wanna do it either, been there, done it, several times.

If for some reason all Melo's gear got deleted and I had to go back to scratch, well I wouldnt, I would either quit EQ or change to my ranger. Actually I would probably quit, mebbe do another MMOG.

Hassle Wreckers into replacing my Shei cloak? Camp halfer mask again? Do epic 1.5 again? Go thru whole PoP flaggin again? Not a fkn chance in hell.

In the old days.. there was always a line sitting on the steps in the basement of Highpass, waiting for a spot to open in one of the groups down there. Now if you do a search all lv's lfg.. youll find roughly 2/3x's as many 66+ people lfg as the entire 1-65s... theres just so little chance for groups at lower lvs these days its not as much fun to start over without friends
( and those groups who are 30's usually are twinked and being pl'd by two bots )
Id love to start a baby over just for fun, untwinked and no financial help, but dont know if Im willing to go so far as giving up PoK books & Baz
Since Turo wants to try on a Mage .. maybe I'll try a Shammy, theres not enough Frogs running around in rawhide

I made myself a shammy to check out the new tutorial zone and its actually really good. They wack all the newbis together so you can learn how to group between levels 1 - 14. Named mobs, tasks, quests, drops its actually pretty good.

As a result of that zone more people should get to know all the little bits and pieces in the game - doesnt teach them everything but it does help. Also tries to teach you maps etc.

Anyways I really enjoyed it - did levels 1 - 10 in one evening - was a late one but still. Only twinking I really did was some stuff under 500pp from the baz. But it wouldnt be hard to do it without help.

Oh and a smoldering brand makes it go a bit faster also /blush
