Drivers currently installed are 8.1.9.8

When I clicked on update drivers I got 2 choices

NVIDIA Geforce 7800GT c:\windows\inf\oem3int
NVIDIA Geforce 7800GT c:\windows\inf\oem5int

and it asked which one I wanted to update.

When the second choice was highlighted it said "this driver is currently installed".

Translation please. And update the second choice?

Sorry aam. Hrrrm no Aam I wouldnt use the update option. Best idea is to redownload the latest graphics card pack from nvidia and rerun it. But from what I can see that appears to be the latest one.

Redownload the drivers though and reinstall them to start. That can sometimes kick things over but in this case not holding out much hope. Try it tho.

Been wracking my brains as to why it would be doing it. Havnt come up with a lot.

When you are in the device manager view I assume nothing in there has little yellow exclamation marks over anything - not that XP does that much. Also that there isnt any "unknown devices" in there. I didnt see anything on the IRQ list so probably not.

We disabled sound outside of the game already lets disable it like we did for the extra network card now.

Go back into device manager and then find the
Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio and disable it the same way we did the network card. Then reboot and kick off EQ again see if it makes a difference.

Had a thought also. When you go into EQ under the options section for video there is an advanced section for reflecting water pixil shaders etc etc etc

Turn all of it off. (take the ticks out of all of it) Also ensure advanced lighting is off. Guild hall has some of those things in it.

You want me to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them? Go to delete programs, delete teh drivers, go to the website adn install the drivers? Just making sure before I do something stupid. :)

Heh I'm waiting for Aam to try all of his stuff before it's my turn again.
I am failing to see how the effects in game could be affecting it like this tho. If it's the effects causing it, it has to be some form of DirectX problem or video drivers or that the effects are bugged and everyones would be doing it.

While I'm waiting tho, do you have a ethernet card handy? One thats a diff brand than the one that is being used onboard?

There's no yellow exclamation marks, however, there is a yellow question mark. It's called Other devices, and under that is another yellow question mark with network controller.

When you click on teh General Tab it says that "The drivers are not installed (code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device, click on reinstall. It also says "Device type: other devices. Manufacturer: unknown. Location: PCI slot 4 (PCI bus 3, device 2, function 0).

Resource tab says "The device isn't using any resources because it has a problem".

Does this mean anything?

rthernet is a type of networking standard. An ethernet card is just a fancy word for network card.

ok that incorrect drivers message intrigues me and I am guna look to that next to try to get rid of. Anything out of the ordinary doesnt work for me..

ok time to download some more things.

Intel INF Drivers
Intel 10/100 Ethernet Drivers
VIA PIDE/SATA RAID Drivers & Utility
Intel IAA RAID Edition for ICH6R
Broadcom BCM5751 LAN Drivers
C-Media Azalia Audio Drivers

all of these packages are accessable through the MSI USA site. Download them all but start by installing the

Intel INF Drivers
Intel 10/100 Ethernet Drivers
Broadcom BCM5751 LAN Drivers
C-Media Azalia Audio Drivers

in that order. After installing each package we want to do a reboot.

I dont want you to uninstall any drivers with regards the cideo stuff aam. But for now put that step on hold and do this one I just listed above.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/d ... 635&kind=1

link to the correct section (if it works)

DONT download windows XP 64 bit versions. Just get the 2000/XP type files.

I'm assuming we still haven't tried a different HD? I know that nobody thinks the HD is the problem, but I really do have a strong feeling about it. Humor me please.

Trying a different hard drive isnt really an option Noog - Aam isnt a computer geek like most of us. For her to do that she will need to take it into her computer shop then convince them to change it etc etc

Either that or it will cost her money. The HDD option is somethign I am remembering to try later if all else fails. There are some weird things some HDD's do however I would expect it to manifest itself in another fashion.

ATM I want to troubleshoot the unknown network device Aam has mentioned. and try a few other things before I send her off to spend more money.

Gotcha. I'm so used to being surrounded by technogeeks, that I guess I assumed all EQ players took the sides off their cases (and LEFT them off) for easy hardware access as we are always fiddling in there. I also assumed that Aam would have full knowledge of how to completely assemble a computer ... My apologies with all sincerity, I wasn't trying to sound rude, condescending, or overly pushy.

I installed the Intel INF drivers, and restarted the machine.

I downloaded the Intel 10./100 drivers to the desktop, extracted the files to the desktop, than it gets confusing. I think the choice I want is WSO3XP2k, but which of the choices do I pick after that?

Eep - ok in future when extracting files make sure you send them to their own folder so they dont get confusing.

Generally tight click on blank space on desktop > new > new folder will do this call it something useful. Actually looking in that file it should have made you a good one so you should be ok.

Most drivers its best to go into Device manager and go to that update drivers place you found before. When using the update driver wizard it has a place where you can tell it to go somewhere to look for the update.

Go through to Intel_PRO100_IP003/WS03XP2K folder should find an ini there for you to use. Any of them should be ok

Back to this question than, if I go to the device manager, click on update drivers, it gives me this:

NVIDIA Geforce 7800GT c:\windows\inf\oem3int
NVIDIA Geforce 7800GT c:\windows\inf\oem5int

So which driver choice do I pick?

Different stroked for different folks Aam. With the Nvidia drivers they have an executable to install so in that case I wouldnt look at the update driver section for them. I would run the executable that you download.

The network card driver (intel 10/100) DOESNT have an executable (*.exe = executable) so you have to use the update driver.

I am in training all of this week so likely I will be sporadic replying to these posts.

Can you posty the IRQ listing page also pls Aam. Nothing new conflict wise which is good - just looking to find out what the network thing was / is and what resources its using now (the one with the ?)

Its a bugger all that didnt work IMA.

Once other thing to try next is disableing sound in the Device Manager instead of just in game. Something to try.

Exactly the same as what we did for the Gigabit Network controler but this time we are looking for

Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio

We want to "Disable" that as well. Reboot - make sure its marked as disabled in the Device Manager then fire up EQ for another go.
