I am thinking about getting the easy reach plan, as i am still only recieving 1500 speeds, should i have started recieving 8000 speed with these speed upgrades and if so and i'm not does it mean even if i change plans its more then likly i will still only get adsl1 speeds?
Some of the speed boosts are still in progress as there are lots of to do and will take approx 2 months to get all completed im told. so yours may be one of them.

If yours has already had the request sent then yeah you may be stuck unfortunately with the speeds you have. again worth checking the modem stats if you know how if your attenuation is higher than 50 its possible the order was rejected for faster speeds due to line length to great.

The Theoretical "max" attenuation is 56 which is approx 4.5 - 5km line or a 4km healthy clean line. According to wholesale anything higher will not support a ADSL service and will reject the order.

We have got some people connected on higher than that but speeds will be sitting no more than 2500 - 3000kbps on a downstream speed but this is on our own equipment not Telstra's

Having a look at the modem status page info is:
upstream 384 kbps
downstream 8032 kbps
SNR Margin (up) 21.0 db
SNR Margin (down) 12.5 db
Line Attenuation (up) 19.0 db
Line Attenuation (down) 32.5 db

And i am about 1.5kms from the exchange, so guessing it may be the line condition between here and there rather then length that is doing me in :/.

Mynks, you are on the 8000/384 kbps speed.

The Attenuation is a combination of your up/down ... so your Attenuation is 51.5dB.

Also, adding on to Sintalia's comments about distance from exchange with the wholesale etc.

Maximum Line Length is 4.6km, attenuation must be between 6.3dB for voice loss, and 56dB for data loss.

Anyone over 4.6km should only be able to receive 1500/256kbps. Anyone over 56dB even on a line less than 4.6km would not be able to receive a broadband connection if their loss is over 56dB. This is all information that is available via Telstra Wholesale or a Telstra Consultant who is Wholesale trained **twiddles his thumbs** but is unable to use it anymore due to Operational Separation.

This is mine

ADSL
Parameters
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 22.0 dB 6 dB
Line Attenuation 11.0 dB 8.5 dB
CRC Errors 2 0
Latency Interleave Interleave

I think I am on a RIM tho, so probably only ever get 8MB/384KB...

Im closer to the exchange here then i was in Bendigo in both places i had a connection and averaged about 18Mbps sync down and i only get 8Mbps/384kbps sadly :(

Not that i would get far on telstras 100GB if i had a real decent connection lol.

I'm somewhere between 4.2 and 4.8km from exchange, my SNR is never over 9.0 (usually happy to see it 6+) and my attenuation is between 53 and 55. So if a bird farts too close to the phone lines I get a DC :(

Well now know why i didn't know about the speed upgrade. got the email from internode to say i had got a free speed upgrade 2:30pm today so must of only just happened in last couple of days :p

So I said before I haven't managed to cap my new 60Gb plan, well this morning I left for work and had 3gig of torrents set to go. I fired them up and checked my usage meter (had 7.9 left) came home to find I was over quota. So with 4 days to go I'm crawling along.

I know I said I thought Internode capped the 8Gb lines back to 256 but it looks like I'm crawling along at 2kb/sec so that makes it dial up 56kb.

It's a good thing there's no EQ as playing on capped lines sucks big hairy balls.

To much porn in 1 month is not always good for you Sab! j/k

Anyway if your on the Easy-Reach-60 plan you would be shaped to 128/128 kbps speeds and the fact your getting 2Kb/s is likely the torrent or site your downloading from although there is not a lot of difference between 2KB/s and 12KB/s in real time anyway and even adverts on websites can cause those speeds to drop while trying to do a download

Plus there is always datablocks if your get desprate for speeds

That was speedtest. But yeah Google was taking ~30secs to load. It's picked up slightly now to a more usable point.

And it wasn't Porn! Was a movie for the midget. Grabbed him Open Season 3.

Your not on a ADSL2+ port if your upstream is 384kbps, that is ADSL1 only.

When you are, then your download speeds should be about 14Mb.

Happy Hunting.

ADSL Status G.DMT
Mode State SHOWTIME
Up Speed 384000
Down Speed 7616000
SNR Margin 12.5
Loop Att. 33.0

not that I know what any of this means

Got myself a Galexy S through virgin on a 29 plan - sonna's on virgin also so will save us some money.

Now to churn my land line over to internode.

Yeah have been on ADSL1 here since 2006 in this house and since 2004 when i joined internode. ADSL2+ only became available on my exchange in last couple of months, so would be suprised if i was on an ADSL2 port :P
And guessing the 8Mb speed increase finally kicked in. When i did a speed through speedtest.net on thurs to melbourne and adelaide i got download speeds of 1.45 and 1.22 today i am getting 11.43 and 8.38. which is one hell of an improvement. Will be interesting to see what the improvement is like with online games or downloading once i have some quota left :P
