Website Names

Post by Miruwin »

Maybe these companies should have thought a little more laterally about their domain names:

Firstly there is Who Represents?, a database for agencies to the rich and famous:
www.whorepresents.com

Second is the Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views:
www.expertsexchange.com

Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island:
www.penisland.net

Need a therapist? Try:
www.therapistfinder.com

And there is an Italian Power-Generation company:
www.powergenitalia.com

Finally we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales:
www.molestationnursery.com

I can see the work of developers like me in there. I always manage to sneak some iffy design names into my programs:

I wrote an intranet content management system. The main table for individual Home Page Source, I named HPSauce

Another system was a client management system. One column in the table was "Analyst Service Required".... My name... AnalServiceRequired.

Theres many more, I try to have at least one in each system i write.

These things make me happy, I'm glad to see other like-minded developers out there.

heh Miruwin wrong site sorry chickie. If you are going to make fun of a great site get it right :P

The www.Expert Sex Change.com site you have used is incorrect. It has always been www.experts-exchange.com. Great site for pretty much anything regarding IT support, not just programming. Saved my ass heaps of times.

The others were fkn funny though :)

I always liked www.thortakesituptheass.com myself. Another funny site.

What you will find Miruwin is the site you have is a link site that is taking the good name of experts-exchange and using it to redirect people to sites that don't actually infact help them but allow them to buy software.

Quite a few sites have appeared likes this as quite often people type the incorect address. Good way to make cash via referrals.

The reason I say this is because in the early days the ExpertSexChange thing was brought up and they answered it by saying "why do you think we put the - in there".

So while yes you are correct and it a real domain name they didn't actually didn't need to think about the name of their domain at all but rather just stole a name that was often miss typed. Allot of domain host sites do this to help them sell more sites.

Sounds like the internet to me :)

Actually Nyssah the point is.

The company didn't think about the name at all, laterally or otherwise. They stole someone elses name.

I never debated it wasn't funny :D
